Spent the day modifying the baby kick drum for the Reckless Saints summer tour.
Replaced standard tension rods with T-style rods for quick face removal; kick pedal, cymbal and snare drum fit inside, held in place between the installed microphone’s mount and the drum’s feet, which have been shortened to pin the snare nicely in place when pushed all the way in. The thick memory foam baffle now doubles as protective packing.
The cherry on top for me was finally finding a use for this handle from a destroyed 1930s guitar case I’d been carrying around for several years.
The next ‘utilize-absolutely-every-inch-of-space-in-the-van’ project will be constructing sensible storage compartments with easy access. Who wants to pull out their bag o’ dirty socks at the venue to get to the guitars?
